"A Sterling Example" is an exhibition that offers a new look at 'mark-making' to express the emotive subjects found in inspirational writings and ancient mark-making process of world cave art. With ceramic work by Joe Jacob, mixed media paintings by Susan Harmon and pastels by David Harmon, the exhibit includes a variety of media and subject matter. The artwork will be on display at the Lincoln Art Center from March 13th through April 30th. The opening is Friday March 13th from 5 - 7 p.m.
David Harmon is an Assistant Professor of Art at Sterling College. He holds an MFA in painting from Penn State University and a BFA in painting from Webster University, St. Louis, MO. He has taught at several institutions including the University of Arizona, Bethel College and the Savannah College of Art and Design. He is currently combining graphite drawing and pastel painting.
Joe Jacob is an adjunct instructor of ceramics at Sterling College since 2001. He received his BS in biology in 1994 from Wichita State University. He also studied ceramics and glaze science while at Wichita State University. Currently his work is functional wheel-thrown ceramics. He has developed all of the glazes used at Sterling College.
Susan Harmon received her MFA in painting from Georgia Southern University in 2007. She is a candidate for PHD degree in Studio Art at Monash University, Australia in 2009. Her award winning work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
