Young Love acrylic painting by Groeblacher.

LINCOLN - "Moments and Monuments", featuring ceramics and paintings by Michaela Groeblacher, McPherson, opens at the Lincoln Art Center with a reception on Friday September 7 from 5-7:00 p.m. A gallery talk by the artist will be at 5:30 pm. This exhibit will run August 30 through October 28, 2007.

Groeblacher completed her BA in Studio Arts at McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries including Kansas City, Pittsburg State University, Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery, and the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. She received First Place Awards in Seattle, WA, Puyallup, WA, and Hutchinson Art Fair, Hutchinson, KS. Her work was included in the first Kansas Collegiate Aesthetics Show in Lindsborg, and the Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina. Groeblacher has work in corporate and private collections in the United States, Austria, and Germany.

She says "Shaping a person’s head out of clay is a slow process and lets me discover the little subtleties, like a slightly raised right eyebrow or a tension in the corner of the mouth of my subjects. As I am forming the wet clay, adding and subtracting, I feel like I am discovering the other person’s soul." Her acrylic paintings are examples of ‘visual stories’ or painted poems’. "I try to express my thoughts through symbols, the most important one being the eye. Our eyes are the gates to our souls. My work is as much about the human psyche and perception as it is about color, composition and form."
