LINCOLN - Rare Beasts and Other Forms, featuring the work of Lee Becker, Lindsborg, and Larry Peters, Topeka, will open at the Lincoln Art Center on Jan. 8, 2007. This exhibit will run through Feb. 24.
Becker is an award-winning studio artist whose most recent works have focused on capture the prescence of rare and endangered animals. In her Rare Forms series, Becker creates life-size portraits of agricultural and exotic animals that are endangered - because of over hunting, environmental issues or they fall out of favor in an era of mechanized large-scale food production. She is a seven-time winner in the Kansas Postcard series, her work has received numerous solo shows and commissions, and has won honors in juried exhibitions. Becker taught art in Kansas for 25 years, privately, for arts organizations an dat all levels of formal education.
Peters has exhibited his work throughout Kansas venues and elsewhere such as the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo. and the Wichita National Decorative Arts, the North coast Collage Society, Ohio. Currently working in two and three dimensional media of ceramic/forged steel, collage, wood/metal and exhibits regularly at the Collective Gallery in Topeka. Peters has work in public and private collections including the Union Pacific Corporation and the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.
