LINCOLN - "Gathered Fragments", featuring the work of John C. Thorns Jr., Hays, and Jeanette Zamrzla, Hays, opens at the Lincoln Art Center May 4 with a gallery walk from 5-7:00 p.m. This exhibit will run through June 28th.
Thorns is a retired Professor of Art at Fort Hays State University where he taught and chaired the Art Department for many years. John was named Outstanding Educator of America in 1973, and is listed in Who’s Who of American Art. The Governor’s Artist Award was given to him in 1985. In his paintings, Thorns depicts nature and images around him by using a mixed media-collage technique. Thorns has exhibited extensively through the years and is represented in many private collections.
Zamrzla completed her BFA from Fort Hays State University in 2006. Jeanette prefers to work three-dimensional, clay has been the primary medium for her explorations. Her work has been in juried exhibitions with the Kansas Artist Craftsmen Association at the Sabatini Gallery, Topeka, Wichita Center for the Arts, the Kansas Collegiate Aesthetic at the Birger Sandzen Gallery in Lindsborg, and the Smoky Hill Art Exhibition in Hays.
