Jesus Sosa Calvo is featured in this colorful exhibit of Oaxaca folk art to open at the Lincoln Art Center September 8 through September 12, 2008. A reception for the artist will be held Wednesday, September 10 from 5-7:00 pm with a demonstration at 5:30 pm.
These carved shrines are wonderful examples of exuberant, imaginative, and colorful Mexican folk art. Calvo will present this ancient sculpting technique to students in Lincoln, Twin Valley, Solomon, Sylvan Grove and Lakewood Middle schools.
Max-Carlos Martinez, Brooklyn, NY, will demonstrate and discuss his unique approach to painting at the Lincoln Art Center on Friday, September 12, 2008 from 5:30-7:00. Max is the artist-in-residence at the Salina Art Center’s Warehouse Studio.
Max-Carlos Martinez is a self-taught painter, born in New Mexico, who discovered the magical qualities or color and light at a very young age. After his move to New York and many years of painting primarily abstract or geometric he began a portrait series to "restore some of the life to six generations" of his family. Five of these paintings are featured in the Salina Art Center exhibit.
