Cabinets of Curiosities

All exhibits are free and open to the public Tuesday - Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lincoln Art Center, 126 E. Lincoln Ave., Lincoln, Kansas 67455. For more information call (785) 524-3241.

Cabinets of Curiosities opens Friday May 8th at the Lincoln Art Center.

"Cabinets of Curiosities" is an exhibition that is comprised of drawings by Elizabeth "Grandma" Layton: On Health and Aging. Layton’s drawings will be exhibited May 8 through May 29th. Erika Nelson, Lucas, and Don Robertson, Hastings, NE. with exhibit multimedia explorations of scale, space, and time, spanning 92 years. Nelson & Robertson’s artwork will be on display at the Lincoln Art Center from May 8th through June 26th, the opening will be Friday May 8 from 5-7 p.m.

Elizabeth "Grandma" Layton’s work is in the form of poignant situation self-portraits, addressing a range of social issues and topics of the era including women’s rights, racism, poverty, homelessness, aging and terminal illness. Her work gained considerable national addition leading to an offer from the Smithsonian's National Museum of America to exhibit her work. This exhibit is brought to the Lincoln Art Center with the support of the CKMH Foundation.

Erika Nelson is a visionary artist and educator, exploring contemporary art forms in the public realm. Nelson is the creator and curator of a traveling roadside attraction and museum featuring "The World’s Largest Collection of the World’s Smallest Versions of the the World’s Largest Things". As an artist she explores a multitude of art forms including video, installation, and assemblages. She earned her MFA from the University of Kansas.

Don Robertson completed studies at Scarboro School of Music, and received his formal education in Fine Art at Hastings College. Robertson has established a national following for his work in both sculpture and Production Services for live performances. He has over 200 commissioned pieces of work in private and museum exhibitions and collections across the country. He currently serves as the Creative Director and CEO of the Nebraska UFO Museum.
