Random, in Tandem", mixed media works by Connie Burket, Salina and Barbara Burket, Lawrence, will be exhibited with an opening reception and gallery walk Friday, September 9 from 5:30-7:30 pm. This exhibit will run through October 19.

Connie Burket is a recently retired arts education/administrator whose 25 year career was motivated by a strong belief that every person, young and old, should have access to the creative, cultural, cognitive, and community building benefits of art, music, dance, and drama. She likes to experiment with a wide variety of techniques and processes. Her work includes drawing and painting in a variety of media, collage, handmade books, textiles, and 3-dimensional constructions. Connie says, "My primary, ongoing creative goal is to make work that simultaneously provides lots to look at and lots to think about." "I hope to engage both the eyes and minds of viewers and to activate thoughts and conversations that enrich us, even when—-or especially when—-our interpretations differ.

Barbara Burket is an artist and graphic designer. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a BFA in Visual Communications, with emphasis in illustration, printmaking, and surface design. Barbara's ever changing style has drawn from a large body of inspirations, such as, her 4 cats, Mexican folk art, Asian folk art, unexpected beauty in natural objects and local current events. She chooses simple and elegant forms for her sculptures and bright vibrant colors for her paintings. Barbara was an illustrator, design artist and computer graphic artist for Gear for Sports, a Hanes Brand Company. Clients included Atlantis, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, MGM Resorts, Coca-Cola, and several others."
